Scholarships by Campus — UC Santa Cruz

Regents Scholarships

Regents Scholarships are awarded to undergraduates in recognition of outstanding academic achievement. Notation of this honor is made on the scholar's UCSC Academic Transcript.

Notification of Awards
Begins March 1.

Academic Criteria
Freshman Applicants: GPA, strength and breadth of academic program, and test scores are considered. Selection criteria vary from year to year depending upon the applicant pool. Awards are renewable for four years based on academic performance.

Transfer Applicants: Requires a GPA of 4.0. Awards are renewable for two years based on academic performance.

Other Criteria
Academic excellence and promise. Other information in the admission application may be considered, including extracurricular activities and the personal statement. In addition, we will consider your response to a supplemental essay topic. Available to fall-quarter applicants.

Supporting Documentation
Qualified applicants will be invited to submit a supplemental essay.

UCSC Merit Scholarships

UCSC Merit Scholarships are awarded to students in recognition of academic achievement. Award amounts vary depending on whether the student has financial aid eligibility.

Notification of Awards
Begins mid-March.

The UCSC Alumni Association sponsors these scholarships for new and continuing UC Santa Cruz students.

Karl S. Pister Leadership Opportunity Awards

The Karl S. Pister Leadership opportunity Awards Program was established in 1993 by former chancellor Karl S. Pister to increase opportunities for talented community college students who want to transfer to UCSC. Awards are $10,000 per year for two years.

Notification of Awards
Begins May 1.

Academic Criteria
All Nominated Candidates: Nominated candidates must have oversome adverse socioeconomic circumstances, have a demonstrated commitment to assisting and improving the lives of others, and have financial aid eligibility.

Other Criteria
All Nominated Candidates: Candidates are nominated by the presidents of each of the 13 regional community colleges: Cabrillo College, Canada College, College of San Mateo, De Anza College, Evergreen Valley College, Foothill College, Gavilan College, Hartnell College, Mission College, Monterey Peninsula College, San Jose City College, Skyline College and West Valley College. Available to fall-quarter applicants.

Supporting Documentation
All Nominated Candidates: Must submit the Karl S. Pister Leadership Opportunity Award Application to their community college administration by late January. Must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2, 2010 (www.fafsa.ed.gov).

Page and Eloise Smith Scholarships

UC Santa Cruz invites former foster youth, orphans, wards of the court, homeless and runaway youth to join the Smith Renaissance Society, a program designed to help students achieve the dream of a college education. The program offers a wide array of student support services as well as a close and caring community.

Academic Criteria
None.

Other Criteria
All former foster youth, orphans, wards of the court, homeless and runaway youth are eligible to receive this renewable scholarship.

Supporting Documentation
Students must submit the Smith Renaissance Society Enrollment Form. Contact the UC Santa Cruz Financial Aid and Scholarship Office at (831) 459-2963 for details.

Other Campus Scholarships

A varierty of scholarships are available that recognize special attributes such as a county of residence, academic majors, special interests and family background.

Criteria vary according to the terms of scholarship.

Other Criteria
Students must meet established criteria for restricted scholarships. In most cases, qualification is also based on financial need.
