Welcome

Creating Change Initiative

The Creating Change Initiative focused on addressing the career advancement of women employees in the University of California system’s campuses, labs and worksites. This work built upon the success of the biannual symposia, Women Leaders: A Symposium for Women in University Settings, which have, since 1998, helped UC women staff identify and overcome internal barriers to career opportunities and advancement. The Creating Change Initiative was a project of the 2007-2008 UC Presidential Staff Fellow Amy Levine, in partnership with Associate President Linda Williams.

There are notable efforts at each UC location to address issues that affect women in particular. Many devoted people have worked tirelessly for institutional change that improves working conditions and career prospects for women staff and faculty. These efforts have enhanced professional development opportunities, family friendly policies and practices, mentoring programs, child care centers and institutional procedures which support retention and mitigate against overt and subtle forms of discrimination. However, more efforts are needed in these regards and the University is committed towards continued work in this area.
