  • Equal Pay Act, As Amended
    Prohibits pay differentials based on sex.
  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
    Makes it an unlawful employment practice for an employer to:
    • fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individual's race, color, religion, sex, or national origin; or to
    • limit, segregate, or classify employees or applicants for employment in any way that would deprive or tend to deprive any individual of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect his or her status as an employee, because of such individual's race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1991
    Allows for compensatory and punitive damages as well as jury trials under Title VII, ADA (for intentional discrimination), and the Rehabilitation Act and established a glass ceiling commission
  • Title IX, Education Amendments of 1972
    Prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.
  • California Fair Employment and Housing Act, G.C. 12940–12951
    Prohibits employment discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), marital status, sex, age, physical and mental disability, or sexual orientation.
