Watsonville/Monterey, March 2007

3.2007

University of California president Robert Dynes visited Santa Cruz and Monterey counties in March 2007 as part of a series of tours around the state to see firsthand how various UC programs are making important contributions to local communities. Tour stops included Watsonville High School to meet with students, parents and teachers involved with the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement, or MESA program. Dynes also participated in a roundtable discussion with UC Santa Cruz undergraduate health sciences majors involved with an internship program that has a culturally sensitive focus; and a series of agricultural visits in Monterey county to learn how UC Cooperative Extension advisors are collaborating with farmers and growers in the area on a variety of topics, including E.coli research and alternatives to methyl bromide.
