This evening will also be a farewell evening for Grant Schlereth, who has been very active in the UC alumni group here for several years. This fund will support students from Davis who need financial support to study Engineering at Imperial College and the University of Bristol. UCLA-USC Game, London Screening – Saturday 1 December 2007
Dig your University sweatshirt out of the closet (or laundry hamper as the case may be) and show some UC spirit. The All-UC Alumni events committee has organised a game viewing party for the UCLA v USC Big Game on Saturday the 1st  December. Kick off is 8.30 but get there by 8.00 to get a good seat.  The venue will be The Traffic Bar in Vernon Place, W1 (nearest tube Holborn). To ensure that the game atmosphere is sufficiently infused with the traditional school rivalry, the event is being hosted jointly by UC and USC Alumni. Cost is £10 if you RSVP in advance or £15 at the door. This gets you food, one free drink and the game! Cost to students is £5 in advance or £7.50 on the door. RSVP. July Fourth in the Park

Join us in celebrating US Independence Day with a casual game of softball followed by a potluck picnic in Regent's Park on Wednesday the 4th of July.  Family and friends welcome!  Time 6-9pm on and around softball pitch #7 at Regent's Park- one of two pitches located on Gloucester Green in the northeastern corner of the park (next to the London Zoo and the Children's Playground). Gloucester Gate is the closest entrance. Cost £5 per person, students and children under 12 are free. RSVP.

British 10K, Sunday 1 July 2007

Team UC consists of 15 runners in London’s British 10K Race. We are running for the Allan Buch Memorial Scholarship Fund for students on the Education Abroad Program, students like Jessica Rankin(pictured left) who participated at a conference at the World MUN Conference in Geneva with the support of a grant from the Fund. “The Geneva Conference was one of the most interesting and unusual weeks of my life,” Rankin told us. “I have never participated in anything this intense... May 8 ~ 6:30-8:00 pm: "Consuming Heritage or the End of Tradition"

Professor Nezar AlSayyad, Professor of Architecture, City and Regional Planning and Chair of UC Berkeley's Center for Middle Eastern Studies, will give a provocative talk on the prospects of preservation and the meaning of the built environment in the age of globalization. Professor AlSayyad is professionally active as both an architect and planner in the US and Egypt. His current research activity is in the areas of traditional environments, housing in the Arab world, computer simulation of medieval cities, architecture of tourism, hybrid places, urban informality, and the new global urban history. Professor AlSayyad is also Director of the International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments.

“Fashion’s Memory” 6.30-8.00 PM

Fashion's Memory showcases contemporary fashion designers and wearable artists whose work demonstrates an innovative response to long-established textile techniques and garment forms, as also embodied in ethnographic clothing. Exhibitors include Marian Clayden, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Issey Miyake and leading American wearable artists such as Jean Williams Cacicedo, Judith Content, Ellen Hauptli, Ana Lisa Hedstrom, Janet Lipkin and Carol Lee Shanks.

Included at the London venue are original sketches by the German ethnographer, Max Tilke - never before exhibited in the UK - and historic fashion plates and costume books from the Central Saint Martins' Museum and Contemporary Collection. These will remain on view from 22 Nov - 2 Dec (closed 23/11 and 1/12).

The private view of UC alumni will include a 20-minute overview of the exhibition by UC Davis Professor JoAnn Stabb and Davis alumna Mary Schoeser. Cost £10 with proceeds going to Allan Buch Memorial Scholarship Fund for Students on Education Abroad Program.

Robert Webster began his legal career by serving as Marshal ( Law Clerk ) to Sir Joseph Donaldson Cantley, one of the nation’s foremost High Court Judges. His early practice at the Bar embraced civil, commercial and criminal work. However, his interest in the impact of European Union Law on the commercial world gradually led to the development of a more internationally orientated practice that today covers E.U. Law, Human Rights and international litigation.

2 July 2005 Come to Henley for the Regatta! Join other UC Alumni and guests at the Royal Henley Regatta on Saturday, July 2nd. Tickets for the Semi-finals allowing access to the Regatta Enclosure are a snip at 16 per person. 
28 June 2005 Meet Wimbledon tube station, walk/shuttle to tournament. Once inside, everyone free to do what you like, hang out in a group or go off on your own to watch the games that are on the grounds Courts no. 2 -19. Alternatively after the first game is over on the Centre and Court no.1, many of those tickets come up for re-sale. You can also decide to queue to purchase those tickets for half price or less depending on seats and going rates of the day. No picnicking allowed but there is plenty of restaurants and shopping on the premises. There is the famous tennis hill where everyone can meet to have a lazy afternoon drink and watch the center court game on the giant screen. Return at the end of the day in group or at anytime you wish by walking or taking shuttle buses to the tube station.
