The University of California announced today (Jan. 21) the appointment of Yvette Gullatt to the newly created position of vice provost for diversity and engagement.

The systemwide position was established to oversee issues of diversity and inclusion and coordinate efforts in these areas across all levels of the university.
“I am thrilled to take on this new role and help the University of California become a model for diversity and inclusion in higher education,” Gullatt said. “Our work will build on previous efforts to ensure that UC is a welcoming and respectful environment for all.”
Gullatt is UC’s current vice provost for Educational Partnerships, which manages UC initiatives and services to improve learning and increase participation of underrepresented minorities in higher education. Gullatt will continue to oversee the engagement activities handled by that team in addition to managing her new responsibilities.
“Yvette is a deeply respected and much valued leader in Academic Affairs,” UC President Janet Napolitano said in remarks to the UC Regents. “She has a long history of successfully working to increase the participation of under-served populations in higher education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.”
“Supporting diversity efforts at UC is an important priority for both myself and Vice-Chair Fred Ruiz,” UC Board of Regents chair Bruce Varner said in remarks to the UC Regents. “I am confident Yvette will prove an important leader for UC on this issue.”
