Here are the terms and conditions that apply to the University of California’s “Advice Campaign” Instagram promotion (the “Promotion”).

The sponsor of this Promotion is the University of California, Office of the President, 1111 Franklin St, Oakland, CA 94607. This Promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram. You understand that you are providing your information to the University of California, and not to Instagram, and by entering into this Promotion, you completely release Instagram from any claims in relation to this Promotion.

By entering the Promotion, these terms and conditions apply to your entry. Instagram’s Terms of Use are incorporated into these terms and conditions. Participation in this Promotion constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions. These terms and conditions may change from time to time without notice.

To participate in the Promotion, you must provide your entry between September 1, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. Pacific time and September 15, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time (“Promotion Period”).

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the State of California. The laws in some places may not permit this Promotion, in which case the Promotion and these terms and conditions are void in those places. You can’t enter this Promotion if you (or your immediate family including parents, children, siblings, partner, grandparents, or roommates) are employed by the University of California, Office of the President. If you are under 18, you must have permission from your parents or legal guardian to enter.

No purchase is necessary to enter or win. During the Promotion Period you will need to:

1) Have submitted a valid entry during the Promotion period

2) Follow the UC Advocacy Network’s Instagram Account through a valid, registered Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/ucadvocacy/) and/or be opted-in to receive emails from the UC Advocacy Network (https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/support-uc/ucan)

You can enter one submission during the Promotion Period. Your entry is received at the time the relevant personnel at the University of California sees your post. Incomplete and invalid entries will not be accepted. The University of California assumes no responsibility for errors that may occur in the posting or transmission of the entrant’s entry.

All eligible entries that advance to the final rounds will be judged on quality and creativity based on the sole discretion of the University of California judges. Entries selected and categorized for the final rounds will be voted on by the UC Advocacy Network’s Instagram community. Votes will be collected via the Instagram Stories feature. The three winning entries will win the prize identified below. This Promotion is a competition of skill, not chance.

Judging will take place on Friday, September 16, 2021, at or around 11 a.m. Pacific time. The judges’ decision is final. Instagram voting will take place Monday, September 27, 2021 through Thursday, September 30, 2021.

You agree that your entry is your own work and that you own the image, including the intellectual property, you submit. By entering the Promotion, you grant the University of California a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license in perpetuity (or at least for the duration of the applicable copyright) to reproduce, publish, adapt, communicate, publicly perform, publicly display, distribute, and broadcast all or part of your entry in any media in connection with this Promotion. On submission, you also consent to us editing, re-using, storing, and sharing your entry in any medium. We will attribute you as the author where possible, but in some circumstances, we may decide not to.

The University of California reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who has engaged in: unlawful or improper conduct, conduct designed to jeopardize the fair conduct of the Promotion, conduct generally damaging to the reputation of the University of California, or any breach of these terms and conditions (as determined in the University of California’s sole discretion). The University of California may determine, in its sole discretion, if an entry is suitable and may disqualify any entrant who submits content it deems to be objectionable or offensive (even though such content might not be offensive to everyone). The University of California is not responsible for any fraud, intellectual property infringement, or other misconduct on the part of the entrants. Should an entrant engage in fraud, infringement, or other misconduct of any nature, including but not limited to a violation of the official rules, such entrant shall be subject to immediate disqualification upon discovery of such misconduct. The University of California reserves the right to terminate, modify, or amend the contest at any time if the fairness, integrity, and/or proper administration of the contest is jeopardized.

The University of California has the right to extend the dates of the Promotion, and we’ll provide notice if we do extend the dates. The University of California can also cancel or modify the Promotion if there are technical or administrative reasons beyond our reasonable control.

The three winning entries will receive an Amazon gift card. Total prize value is approximately USD $50. This prize value is accurate as of the start of the Promotion.

Each entrant is responsible for monitoring his or her Instagram account for notification or other communications related to this contest. On Friday, October 1, 2021 we’ll start notifying the winner by posting a comment on the winning Instagram post from the @UCAdvocacy Instagram account. The winner must respond and claim his/her prize by emailing us at advocacy@ucop.edu within 72 hours of us posting our Instagram comment, or we will pick another winner on the following Friday. We’ll ask for any details required for the prize by a follow-up email to the winner.

The University of California will engage in reasonable efforts to find the winner. If we can’t, or if a prize winner hasn’t contacted us within 72 hours of our contact, the next best entry may be declared the winner of the prize.

If you’d like to find out who won, send an email to advocacy@ucop.edu and include the name of the Promotion within 3 months of the closing date of the Promotion.

If you win, we may ask you to provide proof of identity, residency, and age. If you can’t provide, or refuse to provide suitable proof, then you may be disqualified, and we may choose another winner.

The University of California may use any personal information contained in your entry or submitted to us in connection with this Promotion and awarding the prize. By participating in this Promotion, you authorize the University of California to use your name, likeness, and biographical information in connection with this Promotion and awarding the prize.

You can’t exchange the prize for cash from the University of California, and the prize is non-transferable. We will use reasonable efforts to award the prize as described but if we are unable to do that, we may substitute another prize of comparable value.

You’ll be responsible for all taxes, insurance and any other expenses, fees, and costs connected with that prize that are not included in the prize description.

You’re also responsible for your use of the prize, including complying with any applicable terms and conditions of use, including any applicable conditions along with complying with all relevant laws, rules, and regulations.

The University of California is not responsible for use of the prize that results in:

(a) loss that was not reasonably foreseeable;

(b) loss that was not caused by our negligence;

(c) business losses or loss suffered by non-consumers;

(d) losses caused by factors that could reasonably be considered to be outside our control; and

(e) any loss caused, or contributed to, by your breach of conditions of entry or your negligence.

By participating in this Promotion, you agree to release, forever discharge, and agree to hold harmless the University and its officers, agents, and employees from any and all claims and demands arising from your entry or participation in this Promotion – including but not limited to claims for violation of rights of publicity, invasion of privacy, libel, defamation, copyright infringement, or trademark infringement.
