Contact your legislators

Digital advocacy is a key method for engaging your lawmakers to show what issues matter most to you.

As a UCAN advocate, we want to share with you tips and resources to effectively engage in digital advocacy.

Send an email

The strength of our advocacy is in our numbers! Lawmaker’s staff closely monitor office e-mails and will track the issues their constituents reach out about. Your email does not have to be long, but it should include two components: what you are requesting and why it is important to you.

Make a phone call

A phone call is one of the best ways to share what you’re passionate about with your elected officials. A phone call demonstrates that you are highly engaged and deeply committed to your cause. Lawmakers take notice, so don’t be afraid to pick up that phone and make that call! Similar to e-mails, offices track the issues their constituents call about.

Before making the call, take a few minutes to prepare your thoughts.

If you are unsure of the “ask”, reference the UC Advocacy Network homepage to learn about our campaigns and priorities.
