A half century ago, our nation was shaken and shaped by the collective witness of a heinous act — one that set in motion events, policies and trends that reverberate even today.
Friday, Nov. 22, marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In those ensuing years, scholars have studied the impact of both his presidency and his death. Foreign and domestic policy, the presidential cult of personality, even the way we view news — all trace their roots to his brief presidency and that fateful day in Dallas. Several UC campuses mark the anniversary with articles that examine this pivotal period in history.
- UC Santa Barbara gathers several scholars of history, ethnic and presidential studies for its multimedia retrospective on the JFK presidency.
- UCLA is home to a significant film catalog on Kennedy, from newsreels to behind-the-scenes footage of the 1960 presidential campaign.
- UC Santa Cruz profiles lecturer Daniel Sheehan's popular class on the JFK assassination.
