University of California President Janet Napolitano made the following statement today (March 20) after the White House confirmed that President Barack Obama will speak at UC Irvine’s June 14 commencement ceremony:
“I’m thrilled — for UC Irvine and the University of California system — that President Obama will speak at the June commencement celebrating the 50th anniversary of ground breaking for the Irvine campus. The UC Irvine community — students, faculty, staff, trustees and alumni — deserve all of the credit for making this happen. Across the 10 campuses of the University of California, we’re very proud of all that the campus has accomplished since President Johnson joined in the dedication of the Irvine campus in June 1964.”
